What Is BaaS?
Banking as a Service Explained.

Banking as a Service allows any business to offer financial products — cards, accounts, payments — without a banking licence. Here's exactly how it works.

Banking as a Service (BaaS) is the infrastructure layer that allows non-bank businesses to offer financial products — prepaid cards, virtual accounts, payment processing — by connecting to regulated banking infrastructure via APIs, without needing a banking licence of their own.

The Core BaaS Model

Three layers: Licensed bank or e-money institution holds the banking licence, manages compliance, is the actual card issuer. BaaS platform provides the API layer, technical infrastructure, and card management tools — managing relationships with licensed issuers across multiple jurisdictions. You (the business) integrate the API, manage client relationships, set pricing and limits, build the product experience. You are the programme manager, not the bank.

This model means you can offer clients Visa or Mastercard cards issued by licensed institutions in UAE, Turkey, Estonia, or Singapore — through a single BaaS integration — without any of those licences on your balance sheet.

What BaaS Enables

For forex brokers: Traders who earn profits can spend them directly without withdrawing to a bank first — via a card connected to their trading account balance. Reduces a key friction point and increases perceived value of the brokerage relationship.

For crypto exchanges: Crypto-to-card spending bridges holdings to everyday purchases. A user who can tap their platform-issued card at any contactless terminal has a different relationship with the exchange than one who must withdraw to a bank first.

Two Delivery Models

API + Admin Panel: Full programmatic access for developers. Integrate BaaS functionality natively into any existing platform.

White-Label Banking App: Complete branded banking application — your logo, your colours, your clients — without writing code. Configuration through an admin panel.

Virtual vs Physical Cards

Virtual cards: Issued instantly. Available for online payments and Apple/Google Pay immediately. No delivery time, no shipping cost.

Physical cards: Standard plastic or premium metal. Required for terminals that don't accept contactless. 5-10 business day delivery. Strong brand presence — a card in the client's wallet is a daily touchpoint with your brand.
