USDT is available as TRC20 (TRON), ERC20 (Ethereum), BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain), SPL (Solana), and others. For a business accepting USDT, the answer to "which blockchain?" is almost always "all of them" — but understanding the trade-offs helps set client expectations.
TRON consistently processes over 60-70% of all USDT transfers globally by count. Transaction cost: $1-3. Speed: under 3 minutes with 20 confirmations. All major exchanges list TRC20 as the default USDT withdrawal option. In GCC and Central Asia markets, TRC20 is strongly preferred. For most businesses, TRC20 is where the majority of incoming volume will come from.
The original USDT chain. ERC20 remains the standard for institutional custody and DeFi contexts. Fees: $5-50+ depending on gas prices. Clients sending from MetaMask, hardware wallets, or DeFi positions default to ERC20. Important to support, not the majority of B2B volume.
Very low fees ($0.10-0.50). Fast (under 1 minute). Binance-native — users primarily operating in the Binance ecosystem will often send BEP20. Lower institutional adoption than ERC20.
Extremely low fees (less than $0.01). Sub-30 second confirmation. Solana-native wallets (Phantom, Solflare) growing in adoption. Important for high-frequency payment flows at scale.
